Our History
Good Neighbors Theatre, Inc. (GNT) was established in 2000 under the guidance of the Friends of Cordell Hull. Its inaugural production was brought to life with the help of the Cumberland County Playhouse, and Jim Crabtree, of the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, TN, provided valuable advice to the 18-member volunteer board during the early stages of setting up the theater in Pickett County.
Incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in 2002, GNT has been a fully volunteer-driven organization dedicated to hosting a wide variety of performances and workshops. These include plays, dinner theater, mystery theater, music, magic shows, and summer drama and vocal camps. Since its inception, GNT has focused on providing enriching opportunities for the community, with a special emphasis on engaging and educating local youth in music and theater production. Each season, young performers produce and act in at least one play, fostering their passion for the arts.
In 2009, thanks to a $300,000 low-interest USDA Rural Development loan and the unwavering efforts of its volunteers, GNT transformed a former funeral home on Highway 111 into its permanent home. That same year, GNT held its first production at this new location. Today, the theater serves as a vibrant hub for actors and audiences from across Tennessee and Kentucky, with youth development remaining a key focus. Many programs are partially funded by grants, helping to bring arts, culture, and educational opportunities to a community that might otherwise lack access to these resources.
As a nonprofit community theatre, we depend on the generosity of people like you to keep the arts alive in our region. Ticket sales cover only a portion of our expenses—your donations help us fund costumes, sets, lighting, building upkeep, and the many behind-the-scenes costs that bring live theatre to life. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference and helps ensure that Good Neighbors Theatre can continue to provide quality performances and arts opportunities for all ages.
